I love sports but am not particularly good at any of them. But another side of me loves singing, and I am supposedly quite good at it,” laughs Bryan Chee Tian Chung, a Project Delivery Executive of Stampede Solution. The 25-year old KLite is slightly shy in nature, but warms up when we get into the topic of his workplace. “Stampede Solution was established in 2002,” he shares excitedly, “the company began as a small software company that developed ad-hoc applications according to clients’ requests.” The company has since evolved, and is now known for their star product, Volare®, which is a scalable account receivable management system that can be used to streamline workflow and automate administrative tasks.
Here is what Bryan has to say about his work experience in the intriguing software company:
HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED IN STAMPEDE SOLUTION ?
TELL US ABOUT YOUR FIRST WEEK ON THE JOB
I have been with Stampede Solution for one year now —it is actually my first job. I was definitely anxious at first, especially during the first week. But as I started to mingle around, I realised that everyone was actually very approachable, which turned my anxiousness into pure bliss.
WAS IT IN YOUR PLAN TO BE WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
To be frank, it was surprising that Stampede Solution was willing to offer me a role. My university friend referred me for a software developer role with Stampede, and they initially were not keen on hiring. But after hearing my intention to explore anon-developer role, the management of the company offered me my current role that I have grown to enjoy.
WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT JOB SCOPE?
AND WHAT MAKES YOU THE HAPPIEST ABOUT THE JOB?
I handle the clients’ expectations of project deliverables, as well as managing the project timeline. The most defining moment in every project would have to be when it is delivered —so I would say my entire work scope makes up the satisfaction. I am happiest when clients are pleased with my work.
WHAT DOES YOUR JOB AND BEING PART OF THE SOLUTION TEAM MEAN TO YOU?
Having a role here means opportunity. I have been given a lot of space to learn and develop a better understanding of the IT industry in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. It has definitely helped me identify my strengths and weaknesses, as well as setting a promising career path. In the Stampede Solution team, I report to a project manager and work alongside two other project delivery executives. Having someone to rely on will always be a plus point in my books, but I believe that working as a team makes everything possible. There are times when we are fixated on our own task but knowing that there is a team there to back you up really motivates me to do better.
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS YOUR BIGGEST STRENGTH?
I think my biggest strength is my friendly character. It allows me to be able to connect and relate with people of all levels and helps me manage different stakeholders’ expectation with less conflicts in the workplace.
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES YOU FACE IN YOUR DAY-TO-DAY DUTIES?
Communication. Stampede Solution has a diverse culture; we have a total of nine different nationalities working together, thus we would misinterpret each other’s idea and opinions. However, I find it fun sometimes to learn about each other’s unique expressions.
WHAT KEEPS YOU GOING AND POSITIVE?
I believe that showing up and being present makes up 80 per cent of one’s success •—1it is this state of mind that kept me going and be positive regardless of the outcome. I would constantly remind myself that my challenges are there to make me a better person and failures should be celebrated as an experience.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF WORKING FOR AN SME?
I am not sure how would it be working in a large organisation, but working in Stampede, I feel as though I am going through a one-to-one private tutoring session for my career. Hearing from my peers —who have worked for reputable companies —made me realise that I have slightly more resources and learning opportunities. I feel that I am definitely being groomed for the better.
WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS?
WOULD YOU SAY CURRENT JOB INFLUENCED THESE PLANS?
I have always dreamt of starting my own business, and it dawned upon me that all the experiences here will make my pursuit of entrepreneurship in the future much more relentless. The working environment I am in right now has been very entrepreneurial like in a sense that it requires me to think as an organisation, a good team player and sustainability advocate. My future plan definitely has a corner for Stampede ;the people here have made a mark in my life and I will carry it to my next journey be it my own business or a new role.
